Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have an All in One Desktop PC 24.

At times I am listening to a talk on YouTube when suddenly the PC turns itself off without me shutting it down.

Any idea what could be done to prevent this from happening?

thanks for any ideas on the subject!

Hi @Azure7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there could be a few potential issues causing your HP All-In-One Desktop PC to shut down unexpectedly while you're watching YouTube. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause computers to shut down abruptly to prevent damage. Ensure that the vents on your desktop PC are not blocked and that the internal fans are working properly. You can also try using software to monitor your PC's temperature to see if it's reaching dangerously high levels before shutting down.
  • Power Supply Issues: Faulty power supplies can cause computers to shut down unexpectedly. Make sure that the power cable and connections are secure, and consider testing with a different power outlet or power cable if possible. If the issue persists, you may need to have the power supply replaced.
  • Update Drivers and Software: Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause system instability. Make sure that your operating system, drivers (especially graphics drivers), and browser are up to date. You can usually find updates through the HP website or through your computer's settings.
  • Scan for Malware: Malware or viruses can also cause unexpected shutdowns. Run a full system scan using reputable antivirus or antimalware software to check for any infections.
  • Check Event Viewer: Windows Event Viewer can provide more information about why your computer is shutting down unexpectedly. Look for any error messages or warnings around the time of the shutdown to help pinpoint the cause.
  • Power Settings: Sometimes, power settings can cause a computer to shut down unexpectedly. Check your power settings in the control panel to ensure that your PC isn't set to automatically shut down after a certain period of inactivity.
  • Hardware Diagnostics: HP computers often come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware issues. Check your PC's user manual or the HP website for instructions on how to run hardware diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
