While clicking on a link to access a textbook, it took me to a website saying that my device has viruses, but I did a scan through my settings and everything is safe, with no threats detected. However, I keep getting  pop ups at the bottom right corner of my screen from "inoptoritis.co.in" to scan and clean my computer, but I haven't clicked on them. How do I stop them from popping up if my software is healthy?

Hi @Danielle830,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're dealing with a browser notification hijack, a common trick where malicious websites like inoptoritis.co.in convince users to allow notifications, then spam them with fake virus alerts. These pop-ups are not real threats, but they can be annoying and misleading.

How to Stop the Pop-Ups from "inoptoritis.co.in"

Step 1: Block Notifications in Your Browser

For Chrome or Edge:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Notifications.
  3. Under Allowed to send notifications, find inoptoritis.co.in.
  4. Click the three dots next to it and select Block or Remove.

For Firefox:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll to Permissions > Notifications.
  3. Click Settings, find the site, and remove or block it.

Step 2: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

This helps remove any lingering scripts:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete in your browser.
  • Select Cookies and Cached Images.
  • Clear data.

Step 3: Run a Full Scan with Norton

Even though your system scan showed no threats, run a full system scan via Norton to double-check:

  • Open Norton > Security > Scans > Full System Scan

Step 4: Use Malwarebytes (Optional)

You can also run a scan using Malwarebytes Free to catch adware or browser hijackers that Norton might miss.

Final Tip

Avoid clicking suspicious links from unknown sources, especially those offering free textbooks or downloads. Always verify the URL before allowing notifications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
