My husband and I have HP computer PC's.  His is a little older than mine, and in the Control Panel / System and Security / Power Options, he has the option to use:-
:- HP Power Plan under Power Option

or :- Power Saver.

On my PC, there is only one Power Option to use:-

:- Balanced

Is there a way to install HP Power Plan on my PC.  I am having ongoing problems with my PC in sleep mode/screen saver etc, when I come to use it after I wake up in the mornings, I cannot open my computer with my keyboard, mouse which I have tried everything in my device manager to allow these to open my computer with no option to allow the keyboard or mouse to 'allow to start up from sleep mode.

Hoping someone can assist, as I have to hold the power button to turn off and start my computer again each time

Hi @Muddy9,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It looks like your HP PC is using Modern Standby (S0ix), which changes how power plans work compared to older systems. This is why you're only seeing the Balanced power plan and cannot add the “HP Power Plan” seen on your husband’s older PC.

Why Only “Balanced” Appears

  • Newer HP PCs, including yours, ship with Modern Standby enabled in firmware, which disables legacy sleep modes (like S3) and associated power plans such as “HP Power Saver” or “HP Performance “.
  • As a result, Windows limits you to the Balanced plan, while the other options remain hidden or unavailable.

How to Restore Full Power Settings (HP-Supported)

HP has provided a clean solution via the HP System Default Settings SoftPaq, which optimizes power management for Modern Standby systems:

  1. Visit the HP support site for your exact model number.
  2. Download the System Default Settings or HP System Default Power Profiles SoftPaq.
  3. Install and restart your computer.
  4. This will add an “HP Optimized” power plan that integrates seamlessly with Modern Standby.

What You Should Do Next

  • Go to: Support page for your specific HP PC (you can find this under Software & Drivers).
  • Look under "Software‑System Management" for the SoftPaq titled something like “Optimized Windows Power Profiles”.
  • Download → Install → Restart your PC.
  • You should then have the new “HP Optimized” (or similarly named) power option alongside Balanced in the Control Panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Unfortunately, I could not find any details you have suggested.  I am not sure what to do.  But I thank you for trying to assist me.  Kind regards, Muddy9
