I would like to express thanks to NonSequitur777  for his reply to me about the 6-pin PCIe to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cables. Also let me know about the power output on my Z840.

@jag5c0f,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

The same way I used to power an RTX 3080 through my HP Z440 Workstation's 700-watt power supply: by using 6-pin PCIe to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cables as you can read in this thread: Solved: Re: Upgrading an HP Z440 Workstation - Page 3 - HP Support Community - 9015888:

You can do this because your HP Z840 PSU's 6-pin PCIe power cables can provide up to 216-watt (12V x 18A) of power each.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
