I've not used it, but from what I can find out, Smedio True DVD is a media PLAYER, not a BURNER. So, I do not understand the issue.
If you are asking how to duplicate a commercial DVD, the technical reply is -- you can't! Why? Because the DVD blanks you buy are a little under 5GB in size and the commercial DVDs are 9GB. Clearly, you can't "duplicate" the first onto the second.
The Apps that claim to do this actually make a compressed version and allow one audio track -- so the result can fit on a standard DVD.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate all you volunteers who are so knowledgeable!
No, it's not a commercial DVD, it's made from my husband's family movies from the 60s and 70s. It had the SMedio player on the disc. I duplicated it with CD Burner XP, which accepted only .vob, .bup, and .ifo extensions. On the originating disc, I can see an .ini file by using File Explorer, but it's greyed out (and it didn't transfer to the duplicated disc), and have the feeling that lack has something to do with not being able to view the duplicate.
So, hmmmmmm. Don't fret your brain on this further elucidation. My hubby says nuts to it, and that's good enough for me!
Thanks again.
