@bcspecht, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Pop-Up Ads from HP Pavilion!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Pop-up ads can be annoying, but you can use various methods to block or remove them. Here are some steps you can take to minimize or eliminate pop-up ads on your HP Pavilion:

Use Built-in Pop-Up Blockers

Most web browsers have a built-in pop-up blocker that you can activate. Here’s how you can enable them in:

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the More actions icon in the upper-right corner, and then select Settings.
  2. Select Cookies and site permissions, and then click Pop-ups and redirects.
  3. Slide Block (recommended) to On.

Google Chrome and Firefox: You can use extensions or add-ons like Adblock Plus to block pop-ups.

Remove Adware and Spyware

You might have software, such as adware or spyware, that is causing pop-ups. Use professionally developed removal software to scan and eliminate these unwanted programs.

Disable Pop-Ups Using HP Settings

If the pop-up ads are related to HP software (such as HP Recommends), consider checking if these can be managed from within the HP specific software settings.

Regular Maintenance

Perform regular maintenance by running antivirus and anti-spyware software to detect and remove potential threats.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Can't somebody from HP offer the real solution? These popups are showing up on the Windows desktop (not in a browser), and they say "HP Recommends" on them. The person who replied even mentioned HP Recommends but punted and said "consider checking if these can be managed from within the HP specific software settings." You all made the software settings, so please tell us exactly which software settings to change! That's why we came here with this question!

I finally figured out on my own how to get rid of this nagging problem from HP. Go to:

SETTINGS > SYSTEM > NOTIFICATIONS

Then look through the list on the right side until you find something about

"HP Recommends"

"Omen Gaming Hub"

"HP System Notifications"

"Notification Suggestions"

Off to the right of each one of these listings, there is a toggle switch that is marked ON. Click on this to turn it OFF

Then restart your computer. Hopefully, these annoying promotions/ads will be gone forever. If you still get other pop-up notifications on your desktop, make a note of what they relate to, then go back into your SETTINGS>SYSTEM>NOTIFICATIONS

and scroll down through the list to see if you can find it. Click on the toggle switch to turn it OFF, then restart your computer.

Sadly, HP was no help at all in getting rid of these pesty ads and promos. I had to root this out on my own. Trying to shut it down in the Task Manager did no good at all. Checking my Startup Folder was also no help. Finding and changing these NOTIFICATION settings was what did the trick. Now I'm at peace with my new HP computer and actually like it again. I hope this helps.

Thank you!! I'm going to try that right now. And you're right, HP was of no help.

I have some additional information about how to stop these pesky pop-up ads from HP and their third party advertisers. Even after changing my NOTIFICATION SETTINGS on my HP Pavilion, after a while, the ads started popping up again. This was super annoying. I believe I found the way to stop this once and for all. Do the following:

Click on your Windows Start icon, then select ALL to bring up a list of all the installed software on your computer. Scroll down until you find the section with all the HP installations.

Look for HP Privacy Settings and click on it to open it. Near the bottom there is the option:

"I consent to HP using my data to provide tailored HP and third party offers and ads. This includes sharing data with partners, services providers and marketing networks to present HP and third party ads on HP and third party platforms."

Click on the NO option.

Then close this dialogue box.

This will stop those pesky ads from popping up once and for all.
