HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-1137c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

There was an old incomplete answer, but I'd like to start again.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/ratings/ratingdetailpage/message-uid/7147363/rating-system/forum_topic...

HP has C and D drives and D is Data, but all has defaulted to C drive.  I'd like to move Documents, Music, Pictures, and Videos to Data drive D, but want to be sure all programs, being left on C, can access and function properly, i.e..  Office 365, Groove Music, Media Player, photo viewers and video players....

I understand that this is a partition and not a separate hard drive (right?), but I don't know if just drag and drop works, and can I do it from "This PC" or should I go into users on C drive?

Is there a safer way?

I also understand that I can change system settings to save new files to the D drive, but I really need to move a lot of data off the C drive NOW.  BTW, when I changed defaults, it didn't work the 1st times except for documents.  Took 3 or 4 tries, but then all changed.  Error code came up, but trying again worked eventually.

Hi:

Your PC has two separate physical drives.

HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-1137c Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

One 1 TB mechanical hard drive used for storage (D:/)

One M.2 256 GB NVMe SSD for the operating system, files and programs (C:/).

Someone asked this question a while back and this is how I answered it.

Re: Maxed out C drive - HP Support Community - 8459650

You can copy the folders all at once by highlighting them all in your user profile, right click on them, select 'Copy', click on your D:\ Drive, move your mouse cursor to the D:\ Drive right click and select 'Paste.'

@urthsong

Its specs

            https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06694607

It has  256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD + 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA that means they are TWO physical drives. You need to set default files location first then move files from C: to D:. There is no rule but normally  you can move files from Documents, Videos, Musics and Download folders from C: to 😧

Regards.

you have an automatic, simple and effective method, as indicated in the subject here

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Windows-11/ta-p/8202782

here how to quickly clean files
also see if you have an old old windows folder, you can delete it under certain conditions

An error can always be possible
what you need to know is that with the first method, the manipulation is quite simple, but not totally effective, some documents may not be moved
The second method allows, if no error, to move all the content!
But read carefully what is indicated before proceeding.
Do this once you have understood the principle
note that if necessary you could move other elements ,
What I did for some programs, which can be used from HDD
Disk C also quickly fills with temporary files, you can use ccleaner type software, if not  already been done, you can save a lot of space!
