Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Samsung T7 2GB SSD connected though Port 1 (USB C USB 3.1 Gen 2) on my HP ProDesk 400 G6. When I turn off my ProDesk the SSD remains on and heats up.

Port 1 is a sleep/charge port. How can I trun the sleep/charge functionality off to save overheating the SSD?

How are you shutting down the desktop? My guess is that you are selecting ShutDown from the Windows menu and from your description, it appears it is NOT actually shutting down, but hibernating, instead -- and that would leave the power on to the USB ports.

Go into Control Panel (not Settings) and look at the Power Options, Choose what the power buttons do.  Check that the power button days Shut Down -- and then use the Power Button to shut down the desktop, not the Windows menu.

IF that works, your PC will actually be powered OFF when you then shut it down and so will the USB ports.

Good Luck
