HP sells many thousands of printers everyday.

There are many, many models of HP printers.

To have any chance of narrowing the list of possible issues, you are going to need your model number / name.

Finding your Product Name, Product Number, or Serial Number

Please do NOT post the serial number or any private information – we are a public resource.

Scanning > saving > opening email is different from "Scan to email"

Most email services allow you to open your email, compose a message, and attach saved documents or images.

The "how-to" is generally the same, though individual mailers might have different rules.

You will need to know which of these you are using.

Scan-to-email works in different ways:

For example,

If the printer supports digital sending, open EWS and configure Scan to Email using smtp.

If the printer does not support digital sending, the printer relies on "Apps" on the printer control panel.

Each of these methods are likely explained in the printer User Guide.

Additionally, open and peruse the documents in

Category How to > Select Topic:  Print > Select Subtopic:  Instructions & Settings

And

Category How to > Select Topic:  Print > Select Subtopic:  Print Apps, ePrint or Mobile Printing

Category How to > Select Topic: Diagnostics & Support Tools > Select Document Printing Self-Test Pages

Both of these methods tend to work better if you have installed the printer software.

To do that, you need to know the model of your printer

AND

If available, you need to install the appropriate printer software.

In general, the printer software is available at your printer's website support in "Software and Drivers".

In general, when available, it is suggested that you install the Full Feature Software for the printer.

Optionally, unless it is the "only" option, install HP Smart for Windows application from the Microsoft Store.
