Having an issue with my computer, turned it off when a game froze and when i turned it back on i get an all black screen with a red box that says Secure Boot Violation, invalid signature detected. Check secure boot policy in setup. I hit esc and get boot device bot found

please install an operating system on your hard disk.

hard disk - (3F0)

and when i check the systems with F2 it tells me everything is good, even got it to check my BOIS and it restarted but i still get that red box. All i did was turn it off because a game froze. How can i get my computer working again??

Hi @AmpTHEM,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that you are getting a 3FO error on your HP Pavilion Desktop PC, and your PC is showing two possible startup-related conditions:

  1. Secure Boot/startup configuration issue

  2. Hard drive not being detected for boot, shown by “Boot Device Not Found” / “Hard Disk - (3F0)”

Secure Boot can prevent startup with certain hardware/boot configurations, and one check is to enter the BIOS and review the Secure Boot Configuration. HP also notes that errors such as “No boot disk has been detected,” “OS not found,” or disk/HD-related errors usually indicate the system cannot detect or boot from the hard drive. If diagnostics pass, that does not always rule out a startup configuration or file-structure problem.

What you can try:

  • Disconnect any USB storage devices or other non-essential peripherals.

  • Start the PC and enter the Startup Menu by tapping Esc.

  • Go into Computer Setup / BIOS and review Secure Boot Configuration.

  • If this started after a hardware/boot change, HP’s video says a common test is to:

    • Disable Secure Boot

    • Enable Legacy Support

  • Save changes and restart.

About the 3F0 message:

HP explains that errors mentioning disk / HD / no boot disk usually mean:

  • The hard drive is not being detected properly, or

  • The system cannot find valid boot files/OS on it.

HP also recommends:

  • checking hard drive connections where applicable,

  • searching HP support using the exact error text,

  • And if the drive is failing or the boot files are damaged, recovery or drive replacement may be needed.

Important note:

If your system diagnostics say the drive is good, the issue may still be related to:

  • boot configuration / Secure Boot settings

  • corrupt operating system files

  • Or a drive detection issue that is intermittent.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
