Set-up a new HP computer.

Hi. I am setting up a new computer. My computer tech is going to transfer and backup my old drive. I am to activate (think that is the correct term) it first.  Apparently I power up the system,  connect it to my internet and it automatically walks me through.  The computer did not come with much literature.  So, I am looking for a good link that would help me to know what is going on/how to do this.

Thank you,

There is nothing stopping you from adding your old hard drive to your new PC. So, if you want to use it for extra space, beyond what the existing drive provides, that is not an issue.  But, the Tech needs to REMOVE the Windows OS partition from that drive before you add it to the new PC.

However, you can not USE your old hard drive as the OS drive in your new PC.  For two reasons.  First, the OS contains the drivers for the OLD PC, and if you try to boot from that, it will not work.  Second, the Windows license for that drive is tied to the PC, not to the owner.  So, you can not reuse the old Windows license for your new PC
