Hi Folks,
I've set up my Home network so that I can access my HP dc7100 desktop's c: drive from my HP notebook. All access permissions are granted (Full Access) and I can see all the folders on the desktop's c: drive from the laptop. I can access and do anything I want on most folders (except system folders which are thankfully protected, and these are greyed out) but I cannot access the Users folder or any of its subfolders, even though it isn't greyed out.
The reason I want to access the Users folder is to access files on the Desktop because the Desktop isn't visible directly from the mapped c: drive. All access permissions on the dc7100's folders show as Full Access granted but despite this the Users folder isn't accessible (in the File Explorer navigation the folder expands correctly and shows the subfolders but access to them simply triggers the error "Windows cannot access etc.... You do not have permission to access.... Contact the network administrator to request access".
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated cos I'm running out of hair to pull out.
Cheers.
George

HP does not own the software. Please try

Hi Banhien,
Thanks for quick response and for the links.
The first link shows useful ways of accessing the Users folder and subfolders but that is confined to doing so from the device itself rather than via a network. Accessing these folders is fine from my desktop, it's access via network that is not working.
The second link shows a very similar problem by another user and several attempts by the Microsoft team to get to a solution. Unfortunately, after 4 troubleshooting suggestions the thread hangs awaiting an update from the user since Nov 2017 so we're unlikely to get one now. I've already done all the suggested steps in the thread and they haven't solved it yet.
By the way, I tried to click the Kudos thumb up but I don't actually see one on my screen. Am I looking in the wrong places or is that a feature that's no longer used here? At the bottom of the screen I can click on Reply, Accept as Solution, Yes and No but no Kudos thumb up on the left, or anywhere else on screen.
Cheers and have a great day.
George
