@Rumpole26b,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I recommend you change the keyboard layout to US English and check if it helps.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click on the Start Menu.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Time & language.
  4. Click on Region & language.
  5. Click on the language you wish to add a keyboard layout to.
  6. Click on Options.
  7. Click on Add a keyboard.
  8. Click on the keyboard you want to add.

Note: If the US English is already available just select that and hit OK.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

     I have tried this but still have same problem. When I press the shift key and the number 2 to bring up the @ symbol, I get “ instead.

@Rumpole26b,

I recommend you uninstall the keyboard driver from device manager and then restart the computer and check.

  1. Start Control Panel, click Hardware and Sound, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

@Rumpole26b,

I recommend you connect the keyboard to a different computer and check whether it is behaving the same.

If the issue persists on another computer as well, then I recommend you contact support as it might be a hardware malfunction.

Here is how you can get in touch with tech support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
