Sleep mode worked before the computer was updated to latest Windows 10 May 2020. After updating to latest Windows 10 May 2020, pressing power switch or selecting sleep mode caused the computer to hang up. What is the problem and how to fix it?

Given the date of your post, I would have expected someone to respond to it before this -- but since that has not happened, I will take a shot at it ...
According to Microsoft, the Win10 v20.04 Feature Update is not being downloaded automatically; instead you have to either see it in Windows Update and request the download, or you have to use the Microsoft update tool to force the update yourself. So, which was the case?
Since you should not really be running that version at present, your best bet right now is to see if you can still do the rollback to Win10 v19.09 and stay with that until MS sorts out their issues with this feature update.
Here's the MS thread on issues with this update: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-2004
