Spectre Keyboard 1000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

With my new Spectre Keyboard 1000 (on a Dell XPS 13 running Win 10), pressing the right CTRL key produces a \

 

The Dell’s own keyboard and a wireless one I am replacing work fine.

 

I assume this has something to do with international keyboard mapping, but I am in the US and bought the keyboard in the US.

 

Any ideas?

The problem is the keyboard, not the computer. The keyboard behaves the same way on another computer.

 

Is there a way to change the firmware or configuration on this keyboard?

For some reason the right CTRL key on this keyboard sends an unusual scan code. 

 

I used SharpKeys to remap it to right CTRL.

@John-in-NYC If the keyboard in the below image is what you've got and the Right CTRL key isn't working as it should, on more then one device, this could be a hardware malfunction:

 

 

And I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

 

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

 

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
