A couple days ago, my computer suddenly started running slowly. I've looked at the task manager and a large amount of memory is being taken up by a series of background processes all titled "Omen".  I checked the install date, and it was indeed two days ago, coinciding with the sudden performance issues. I checked the startup status on task manager and it claims Omen is disabled at startup, but when I restart my computer it's still there.

1. Why did it suddenly show up 2 days ago?

2. What is it and why might I need it?

3. How do I keep it from gobbling gigabytes of memory when it runs?

4. Why is it running in the background when it's disabled at startup?

Thank you.

Hi @Suzifrommd,

Thank you for your reply

I understand the sudden appearance of the "Omen" background processes coincided with a recent upgrade or installation, which could be the cause of your performance issues. Let's address your questions:

Why did it suddenly show up 2 days ago?

The appearance of the "Omen" processes likely coincides with a recent software update or installation. It's possible that a recent update automatically installed the Omen software or related components without your explicit consent or knowledge.

What is it and why might I need it?

"Omen" is a software suite developed by HP primarily targeted at gaming systems. It includes features such as performance optimization, system monitoring, and customization options for gaming setups. You might need it if you're interested in optimizing your gaming experience, but if you're not actively using these features, it may be unnecessary for your needs.

How do I keep it from gobbling gigabytes of memory when it runs?

You can try several steps to mitigate its impact on system resources:

  • First, try to identify if any specific component of the Omen software is causing the memory usage. Sometimes, certain features or modules within the software can be responsible for excessive resource consumption.
  • Consider uninstalling or disabling unnecessary components or features of the Omen software through the control panel or settings menu.
  • Check for updates to the Omen software. Sometimes, updates can include optimizations or fixes for memory-related issues.
  • If none of the above steps work, you may need to consider completely uninstalling the Omen software if you don't require its features.

Why is it running in the background when it's disabled at startup?

It's possible that even though the Omen software is disabled at startup, certain components or background processes are still being initiated or launched by other system processes or services. This could be due to dependencies or configurations that are set to run regardless of startup settings. You may need to manually stop these processes or uninstall the software to prevent them from running in the background.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
