about a year ago I contacted HP Support online for help with a printer. I then got a call from a company in Vegas maybe who said that my request was referred to them because there is no one to help at HP - it was outsourced. I have dealt with them 3 times now and the first two times i was asked to pay altogether about $2000 dollars to get problems they told me i had fixed. they now caught spy eye on my system and have asked for another $2,000 dollars. Is this part of HP’s arrangement with their contractors and how do i verify that the company is in good standing?

@JP208 -- did you really pay $2000?  What high-end printer do you have where paying $2000 to fix it is justifiable?

I think that you contacted a non-reputable company that must have been "spoofing" HP, and now that company is scamming you.  Talk to the "fraud" department of your local police department.

Also, talk to your bank, to see if they can get any of your money back.

There might be a "BBB" ("Better Business Bureau") in Las Vegas (if that is really where the company is) that can tell you something about the creditability of the company.

Note that with VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone-systems, they could be anywhere in the world -- probably not in Las Vegas.

Hi there and thank you for responding. They fixed the printer and then I bought security services from them….a Geek Squad on steroids, I was sucked in by the fact that Hp sent them to me and they did some security clean up and upgrades. So luckily, no the money was not to fix the printer, thank goodness. I did some basic searches and the company name and phone number are legit but I agree, I don’t think they are in Vegas. I think they get customers with legitimate product services and then lure you into their security line which is the more lucrative. I just want to find a way to raise this with HP directly but they have no direct numbers any where that I can find.

On this forum, I have read that the lack of telephone-numbers is deliberate -- so that scammers using VOIP cannot configure their VOIP adapter to set the Caller-ID information to HP's name & telephone number.

This may not change much, and anyway, but you can try this options!
