@Surgeon01, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding I/O device error code (0x8007045D)

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you are encountering an I/O device error code (0x8007045D) when trying to back up data to your Toshiba Canvio Basic external hard drive. This error typically indicates a problem with reading or writing data on the drive. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Check Connections

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the Toshiba hard drive and the computer.
  • If possible, try using a different USB cable or connecting to a different USB port.

2. Restart Your Computer

  • Sometimes a simple restart of your computer can resolve transient issues with external drives.

3. Check for Disk Errors

  • Use the built-in Windows tool to check for errors on the external drive:
    1. Open "File Explorer" and navigate to "This PC."
    2. Right-click on the Toshiba external drive and select "Properties."
    3. Go to the "Tools" tab and under "Error checking," click "Check."
    4. Follow the prompts to scan and repair any errors found.

4. Run Disk Cleanup

  • Run the Disk Cleanup tool to clear up space and remove temporary files that might be causing issues.

5. Try a Different Computer

  • Connect the Toshiba Canvio Basic hard drive to a different computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the drive or the original computer.

6. Update Drivers

  • Ensure that your computer's USB drivers and any software provided by Toshiba for the external hard drive are up-to-date.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
