I will uninstall the McAfee trial version immediately.  Pure, promotional junk and annoying.  After doing so, will MS Defender automatically take over security or must I turn it on somewhere.  Thanks!

It should start automatically, but you may have to turn it on.

 

To check if Microsoft Defender is turned on after you uninstall McAfee, click on the show hidden icons device on the lower right side of the taskbar and you should see a shield with a green checkmark on it if everything is OK.
