Hi @Sol74,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like remnants of McAfee are still present on your HP Pavilion Desktop PC, which is causing the recurring pop-up window. Here's a step-by-step guide to fully remove McAfee and stop the pop-up.
Use the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool (MCPR)
McAfee provides a specialized tool to ensure all remnants of their software are removed.
Download the MCPR Tool:
- Go to the official McAfee website and download the MCPR tool.
- Here is the direct link to the MCPR tool.
Run the MCPR Tool:
- Locate the downloaded file (usually in the Downloads folder) and double-click MCPR.exe.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the removal process.
- Restart your computer after the tool has finished.
Check for Remaining McAfee Services
Sometimes services and scheduled tasks may still be running.
Open Task Manager:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Go to the Services tab and look for any McAfee-related services. If found, right-click and select Stop.
Check Task Scheduler:
- Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter.
- In Task Scheduler, look for any tasks related to McAfee and disable or delete them.
Clean Up Registry Entries
Be cautious while editing the registry, as incorrect changes can harm your system. It's a good idea to back up the registry before making any changes.
Open Registry Editor:
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
Find and Delete McAfee Entries:
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE.
- Look for any McAfee folders in these locations and delete them.
Run a Full System Scan
After performing the above steps, it's a good idea to run a full system scan with your preferred antivirus software to ensure there are no remaining threats or unwanted files.
By following these steps, you should be able to completely remove all traces of McAfee from your system and stop the recurring pop-up window.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
