Microsoft Windows 11

A few weeks ago, my PC was going through unexpected problems, unable to do anything.  Thankfully, much of the problems have been resolved with the help of Microsoft Agents.

Now, I've been working with agents to help get updates for my PC intact.  But there have been several issues with certain updates.  Specifically, this one - "2025-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5065426) (26100.6584)".  The message I keep getting for the update is "Download error - 0x800706be".  The problems with my PC situation have escalated this to a Level 3 problem, at least according to the Microsoft agents.  The agents have managed to collect information and have told me to contact HP for a specific update...or something particular...software and drivers.  I'm not sure.  The thing is, I have no idea what I'm doing, and I dare not install or do anything without professional help.  The Microsoft agents suggested the same thing, too.  So, I'd like to know what to do, what to install, and what steps to take next.  The Microsoft agent plans to contact me on Tuesday after I find out what I need to do here.

Thanks in advance!

@Skull13, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I understand you're experiencing issues installing the Windows 11 cumulative update KB5065426, which is returning error code 0x800706be. Based on the information provided by Microsoft Support, it appears the issue may be related to your system's BIOS version or outdated drivers that are preventing compatibility with this update.

Let’s walk through the next steps we recommend for your PC model.

Confirm BIOS Version and Motherboard ID (SSID)

On your keyboard, press Windows + R

Type: msinfo32 → press Enter

In the System Information window:

Look for “BIOS Version/Date”

Look for “BaseBoard Product” or “BaseBoard Version”

For eg: In the OMEN GT13-0380t CTO, the motherboard SSID is 8703.
The most recent BIOS version for that SSID is F.30.

Update Your BIOS (Only if Needed)

⚠️ IMPORTANT: BIOS updates are sensitive operations. Please ensure the PC is plugged into a reliable power source and do not interrupt the update

If your current BIOS is older than F.29:

Go to HP's official driver support page for your product:
OMEN 30L Desktop - GT13-0380t CTO Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

In the BIOS section, locate the file:
“F30 Rev.A” for SSID 8703

Download the file and run the installer. Follow all prompts.
Your PC will restart and complete the BIOS update process.

After rebooting, reopen msinfo32 and confirm BIOS version is now F.30.

Install the Latest Drivers

Once BIOS is up to date:

Visit the same driver page above.

Install the following updated drivers in this order:

Chipset Driver (Intel or AMD depending on your build)

Storage Controller / Intel RST / NVMe Controller

Graphics Driver (NVIDIA or integrated, as needed)

Network Adapter (LAN/WiFi)

Audio Drivers

System Utility or Firmware Updates

Restart your PC after installing each category, if prompted.

Retry the Windows Update

Once BIOS and drivers are fully updated:

Go to Settings → Windows Update

Click Retry on the failed KB5065426 update

If it still fails, please notify Microsoft that firmware and drivers are now current. They may proceed with advanced update troubleshooting or offer you a manual installer for that cumulative update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

No good.  I followed directions, but the BIOS Version/Date still remains at F.24.  The PC didn't even say that the update failed, which is strange.

The Microsoft agent will be contact me on Saturday, October 4th.  I may have to do a Factory reset for the PC, since it seems that nothing else seems to be working...  I'll find out more on Saturday.
