I have BIOS ver F46. Support assistant says F47 is available with increased security but did not prompt me to install it. Should I install this?

hi @traumatwo
except in special cases, you do not need this type of manipulation, the bios update process is automatic
1. Click the Download Only button.
2. At the File Download screen, click the Save button.
3. At the Save As screen, save the file to your Desktop.
4. If a message appears stating that the file already exists, click YES to overwrite file.
5. Double-click the icon to download the update to your desktop, and then click NEXT.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
7. If prompted to restart the system upon completion of the update, click YES and allow system to restart.

and with this one, it is possible to create a usb key, automatically
why complicate things...

hi
your computer is working, so don't tempt fate
just for information if you want to do it anyway
if it matches your ssid:
HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 844C) | F.47 Rev.A | 11.3 MB | May 15, 2022 | Download |
Provides improved security
unless you search, for a while, in order to be able to find what it is exactly about, we don't know more!
And the risk may be greater than trying, than being attacked, if that's what it's all about.

Hi
Thank you very much
I cloned and upgraded the SSD from the original to a WD SSD 1TB with no problem. Support Assistant says it is 844C 00
True. I have no idea what the security improvements are. I just know HP advises to keep up to date with the BIOS firmware and I saw a new one was released. So I thought to do that but I know flashing BIOS stuff is no joke. Neither Support Assistant or Device manager FIRMWARE>UPDATE DRIVER prompts to install Ver F.47 Rev A. So I will do as you suggest and look around to see what improvements are there before doing anything. Still confusing why they say to do something but then that something could brick my Desktop. Thank you very much again.

Download and save the Recovery BIOS (.BIO) file to a temporary directory.
Recovery BIOS file
Copy the .BIO to a USB thumb drive.
Plug the thumb drive into a USB port of the target computer.
Shut down the target computer.
Enable the F7 prompt display:
Power the computer on.
Enter the BIOS Setup by pressing F2 during boot.
Go to the Boot > Boot Display Options menu.
Enable Display F7 to Update BIOS.
Press F10 to save and exit.
During boot, when the F7 prompt is displayed, press F7 to enter the BIOS Flash Update tool.
Select the USB thumb drive and press Enter.
select USB thumb drive
Select the .BIO file and press Enter.
select .BIO file
Confirm you want to update the BIOS by pressing Enter.
Wait 2–5 minutes for the update to complete.
update completing
Remove the thumb drive.
Restart the computer.

Rachel Gomez

Thank you Rachel.
That is an awesome comprehensive set of instructions.
So unfortunately I have a stupid question and apologies in advance. I don't know what a "Recovery BIOS" file is to download it. Is the "Recovery BIOS" (.BIO) you refer to one that appears after opening up the F47 update file application ( "sp 140305" ) which I did download or is it something else?
Thank you again for your time and consideration!!
