I've tried searching but can't find an answer to what HP Audio Switch is and what it does.

In my case, HP Audio Switch was useless. I wish manufacturers would explain what these programs do. I have an HP 15-BS015DX. I had a lot of HP programs which started up - most of them I removed or in the process of removing. I only have to determine if HP Sure Connect and HP Wireless Button Driver are useless as well. I connected my laptop to an HP C8180 printer and HP (sure enough) will not let me download just the driver but I had to install useless software like HP Imaging Device Functions 4.0 and HP Photosmart All-In-One Driver Software (a mouthful there).

But I thought HP Audio Switch was redundant because the laptop came with Realtek HD Audio Manager. So, I uninstalled the HP Audio Switch, rebooted the laptop and played some video and audio with no problems.

So yes, if you have another app that takes care of your audio needs, get rid of HP Audio Switch. I may eventually uninstall the other HP apps (bloatware).
