@ArpitKumar0912,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The error message you're seeing -"Cooling fan is not working properly", is typically a BIOS-level warning issued by the system to prevent potential overheating damage. It means the system has detected either a failure or abnormal behavior in the CPU or system cooling fan.

Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

1. Power Off and Inspect the Fan:

  • Turn off the PC and unplug it.

  • Open the case (if it's a desktop) or bottom panel (for laptops) and visually inspect the fan.

  • Look for:

    • Dust buildup blocking the blades.

    • A fan that doesn’t spin when nudged (indicates it may be seized).

    • Loose or disconnected fan cables.

2. Clean the Fan:

  • Use compressed air to blow out dust and debris.

  • Make sure the fan blades move freely and aren't obstructed.

3. Re-seat or Replace the Fan:

  • Ensure the fan cable is securely plugged into the motherboard header (typically labeled “CPU_FAN” or similar).

  • If the fan still does not spin, it may need to be replaced.

4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Turn on your PC and immediately tap the F2 key repeatedly.

  • Choose System Tests ➜ Fan Test or Component Tests ➜ Thermal (if available).

  • This can confirm whether the fan is operational from a hardware perspective.

5. Update the BIOS:

  • Sometimes, BIOS updates include better fan control logic.

  • Visit Official HP® Support, enter your product name/number, and look for BIOS updates under "Drivers & Software".

When to Replace the Fan:

If the fan:

  • Does not spin at all,

  • Spins noisily or irregularly,

  • Or fails the hardware diagnostic test,

…it’s best to replace it. Be sure to get a fan that matches your model and socket type.

If you’d like to share your exact PC model number, I can help guide you to the right replacement part or a compatible solution.

Let me know how it goes!

Kind Regards,
