Can anyone help me with why I'm not able to open icons (files) on my desktop?

There's a couple of different kinds of icons.

The first is where you have stored the file in the Desktop folder and the link is to the actual file.

The second is where you have created a shortcut link to the file and stored that in the Desktop folder.

Which is it?

And you can usually open these by double-clicking them or right-clicking on them and doing an Open with ...

Which of these are you doing?

And what kind of files are these -- text files, MS Office files, Internet Site URLs?
