Hi:
Microsoft decided to draw the W11 compatibility line at the Intel 8th gen core processors, which has a lot of us not happy.
Windows processor requirements Windows 11 supported Intel processors | Microsoft Docs
This does not necessarily mean you can't install W11 on your PC, but you would have to perform a clean install and reinstall all of your programs and files.
If you want to see if W11 works on your PC, you can make a bootable W11 USB installer from the link below.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows11
See this article. 3rd headline from the bottom.
If for some reason, W11 does not work correctly on your PC, you can reinstall W10.
I currently have W11 clean installed on two PC's that I have, that do not meet the requirements for the W11 upgrade and they both work fine on W11 so far.
I use the free Macrium Reflect software to make system images of the W10 installation before I installed W11.
You may want to do the same.
Make a system image using Macrium reflect, and if W11 doesn't work right, you can easily go back to your current W10 installation.
You save the image on a portable hard drive and the software will have you make a bootable USB flash drive or DVD you boot from to access the system image stored on the portable hard drive.
Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition
You want the file listed on the left side of the webpage under the Backup at Home section.

I deliberately did try to install W11(using ISO file) on one of my machines which does not have Intel Gen 8 processor. I expected it should reject immediately but only few minutes later.
I think Microsoft should do the checking step first.
Updated: Very interesting. I used same ISO file to upgrade 3 machines at the same time: 1 Dell Inspiron 13-7000 2-in-1, 1 HP Omen 15-dc0xxx and 1 HP Elitebook 840 G5. No idea how and why the Dell completed 20 mins before others. Their specs
Dell : Gen 10 i7 10510U, 8GB DDR3 (yes DDR3) RAM, WD PC SN520 512GB
Omen 15: Gen 8 i7 8750H, 32GB Samsung RAM, Samsung 256GB + HGST 1TB
840 G5: Gen 8 i7 8550U, 8GB , Toshiba 256GB
Regards.

Hello
Warning @llove109
For the moment, it is not clear enough, the user is not always aware of the consequences
We can tell you, that despite everything we can install windows 11
Only, it is not without risk ..
Microsoft, warns users, but it's not very explicit
Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements
We risk having serious problems, probably updates, security problems, we do not really know what else
If the installation goes well for some, for others it can be complicated
Hp also might not provide any update:
HP PCs – Support for Windows 11 | HP® Customer Support
Think carefully, before taking the risk, see the experiences of other users, see if it can be interesting, or if you can wait to have a new computer later, 100% compatible!
Windows 10 remains one of the best systems, and can be used for quite a while.

Yes, only 8th generation processors are supported for Windows 11. This is been specified by the PC manufacturers for improved security and performance. It seems i5-7400 is not on the list of supported processors.

Yes @Prométhée. absolutely words of Wisdom!
In my case, my Spectre x360 with i7 Gen10 goes unresponsive at Windows Login screen after installing Windows 11.
Hardware tests Pass both at BIOS level and within Windows, so no failure from hardware part.
I made a clean install without backing up my Windows 10, now I am in trouble (Looking forward for help at my post).
External Keyboard and Mouse are working, only inbuilt interfaces gone unresponsive.
Best Regards!

I think Microsoft did that on purpose they want everyone to have better computers, both computers that I have got upgraded from windows 10 to 11 and both are pretty new. My HP laptop is a year old and my other computer not a HP is not even a year yet.
