Hi @Mas303,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your new HP Wireless Mouse 200 works for a few seconds and then switches off, it might be related to several factors. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:
1. Check the Batteries
- Install New Batteries: Make sure the batteries are fresh and properly installed. Sometimes, new batteries can be defective. Try using a different set of batteries to see if that resolves the issue.
- Battery Orientation: Ensure that the batteries are inserted in the correct orientation according to the markings in the battery compartment.
2. USB Receiver
- Check USB Connection: Ensure that the USB receiver is securely plugged into a working USB port on your computer. Try different USB ports to see if that helps.
- Avoid Interference: Keep the USB receiver as close to the mouse as possible, and make sure there are no obstructions between them. Wireless devices can be sensitive to interference from other electronics.
3. Power Settings
- Disable Power Saving: Windows might be putting the USB receiver into a low-power state. You can adjust the settings:
- Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start button).
- Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
- Right-click on each USB Root Hub and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- Repeat for all USB Root Hubs and then restart your computer.
4. Check for Software Conflicts
- Remove Other Peripherals: If you have other wireless devices connected, such as other mice or keyboards, try disconnecting them to see if there's a conflict.
- Update Drivers: Ensure your mouse and USB drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through Windows Update or the HP support site.
5. Mouse Settings
- Check Mouse Settings: Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse and ensure that the mouse settings are configured correctly.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Mas303,
Please find the next steps below.
6. Test on Another Device
- Try a Different Computer: If possible, connect the mouse to another computer to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the mouse itself is faulty.
7. Reset the Mouse
- Resetting the Connection: Turn off the mouse, remove the USB receiver, and wait a few seconds. Plug the receiver back in and turn the mouse back on. Sometimes, a simple reset can help re-establish the connection.
8. Firmware Update (if applicable)
- Check for Firmware Updates: Some wireless mice have firmware that can be updated through software provided by the manufacturer. Check the HP website for any available updates for your mouse model.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP Wireless Mouse 200.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
