The AIO came with windows 10 home pre installed.
I tested the install media on another machine and works fine. When it starts up it asks for a product key which you answer I don't have one and then it produces a list of different versions of windows which I select windows 10 pro.
when you answer the key question I don't have one this makes the install default I guess go to your Microsoft Account to verify that you have the right to install windows 10 Pro.
My problem is that the machine seems to grab the install key right away and then proceeds to just install windows 10 home again. Is there a place in the bios or somewhere that can be set to stop it from getting the key?

Hello
I may have misunderstood, but if the HP computer is original with the home version, you must install the home version
unless you have a pro activation key, you can not change that!

I have a windows 10 pro key and it is stored in my Microsoft Account.
when I try to use the installation media the pre installed software on the desktop does not allow it to start up and just goes on and re installs windows 10 home.
I have windows 8.1 pro with a license key can I install it on this machine which has the pre installed windows 10 home?
Am I stuck with a machine that only can have windows 10 home? I tried to get support since this machine is only a few months old. I had to send in copies of the purchases and serial numbers today and was told that it would three days for them to update my licenses.
please let me know about other software that have valid keys.

> I guess go to your Microsoft Account to verify that you have the right to install windows 10 Pro.
What happens if your computer has *NO* Internet access while Windows is installing?
At that point, it cannot "call home" to retrieve any product-key.
Then, in Windows, search for "change product key", and enter the key for Windows 10 Professional.
Then, connect to the Internet, to allow Windows to "activate", using that "pro" key.
P.S. Where did you obtain that product-key for Windows 10 Professional? The only LEGAL places are via the "Windows Store" app, or by purchasing a product-key at a "big-box" store like BestBuy.

When windows 10 came out everyone was given a key based upon what you were running at the time.
mine was for a pro version.
back to the question about this machine and its pre installed software. Can I install other versions if I have the license?
please respond.

You probably have a problem here between the original activatable oem version, and your pro version
The account may not allow you to use this pro version with this computer
now you say you have a key, but if i understood, from another installation, if you want to use the pro version, you probably have no other choice but to activate with the product key, if I understand you do not have it ..
In this case only microsoft should be able to help you
If you have another computer running this pro version, maybe you can try to recover the windows key
there is software allowing this
but hard to say the activation will be trouble free
normally an oem version, can only be used with one computer
You need a multi post version
but as sometimes it works all the same, you can test!

Browse the files on that media. There may be a product-key in a file in a folder, and the installer might be using that product-key.
Or, after installing Windows Home, can you use "enter product key" to enter the Windows Pro product-key, and "activate" again?

so from what i understand, the user does not have an installation key!
he activated the pro version with another computer!
this pro version would be linked to his microsoft account.
but there he cannot use this pro version, since he does not have a key, and he cannot use the linked account ..
Is it this @shipinomore10
