For some reason when I boot up and press f10 it skips letting me enter my bios and goes to the windows screen for booting up.

@jfl50,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If pressing F10 is no longer opening the BIOS and the system immediately continues into Windows, a few things could be happening:

1. Start tapping F10 repeatedly immediately after pressing the power button:

On many HP systems, the BIOS entry window is only available for a few seconds. Rather than holding the key, try tapping F10 continuously as soon as you power on the PC.

2. Try the Startup Menu first:

  • Power on the PC.
  • Repeatedly tap Esc immediately after pressing the power button.
  • If the HP Startup Menu appears, select F10 = BIOS Setup.

3. Disable Fast Startup in Windows:

Fast Startup can sometimes make it more difficult to intercept the boot process.

  • Control Panel → Power Options
  • Choose what the power buttons do
  • Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and shut down completely

4. Enter UEFI Firmware Settings from Windows:

If Windows is booting normally:

  • Settings → System → Recovery
  • Advanced startup → Restart now
  • Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings
  • Restart

The system should boot directly into the BIOS.

A few questions:

  • What is the exact HP model number?
  • Did F10 work previously and recently stop working?
  • Are you using a wired USB keyboard or a wireless keyboard?

If you're using a wireless keyboard, try a wired USB keyboard if you got it, as some wireless receivers are not initialized early enough during startup for function keys to be detected.

Kind Regards,
