hey there,
i recently bought the omen 40l gt21-1047nd desktop. sometimes (lets say every half an hour) my frames suddenly drop from 450 towards 10, and stays there for like 3 seconds. im not sure what the problem is. i have founds out my cpu is a bit on the warm end ( 60 while idle and 70 while gaming). is it possible that buying a good cooler for my cpu will fix the problem?

Greetings @remco23
Welcome to the HP Forum.
You recently purchased this PC.
When did the PC start dropping frames?
Temps and Component Tests:
CPU temps at 70 Degrees C when gaming is very good. Have you checked graphics card temps?
Run the FurMark stress test and performance benchmarks at your PC's native resolution to check GPU temps and graphics card performance.
You could also download, install, and run Final Fantasy XV to check system performance at this Site. I use this benchmark to check new PC builds.
Heaven Benchmark is an other option to check CPU and GPU performance.
Your PC's specifications:
It looks like your PC has an Nvidia 4070 Super. A very good gaming graphics card. And other PC component specifications look very good.
Your PC should be a very good gaming system.
Drivers:
Are you using the latest Nvidia driver available Here? Change the Language as required when downloading the latest graphics card driver.
Previous 2025 Nvidia drivers have been causing stability problems running on Nvidia 3000 series graphics cards and Nvidia 4000 series graphics cards.
I'm using Nvidia 572.70 drivers with an Nvidia 4070 installed using NVCleanstall and I am having no problems on an AMD system.
I am not using the new Nvidia App.
Indeterminate Problem:
You may have a Windows configuration problem or an Nvidia graphics card problem if the latest Nvidia drivers can't fix dropped frames when gaming.
I don't use Windows: Game Bar, Captures , and Game Mode.
It would be very difficult to isolate your graphics card problem in a Forum if the latest Nvidia graphics card driver update does not fix the problem.
You might want to back up data. Then try a clean Windows installation or do a HP Cloud Recovery?
I would tend to think your PC may have a hardware problem if you see precipitous frame drops when gaming after reinstalling Windows or doing a HP Cloud Recovery.
But a problematic Nvidia driver could be a wild card.
And network problems can also cause dropped frames when gaming over the network. So a NIC or WIFI problem could be happening.

Greetings @remco23
You don't need to use NVCleanstall.
I use this custom Nvidia driver installer to remove Nvidia Telemetry. And I don't install the new Nvidia App.
Download the latest Nvidia driver.
Do a custom install.
Select a clean install to remove the previous Nvidia drivers.
Don't install the new Nvidia App unless you want the App.
Did you check graphics card thermals? A hot graphics card will throttle and can exhibit unstable behavior.
Check system stability and GPU thermals by running the graphics card benchmark software per my first response.
You may have a network issue if the benchmark software does not drop frames and GPU temps are good.

hey there, i have reinstalled the new driver with cleaninstall. also the temps are good (on the low end, about 40-50 degrees) and the online gpu benchmark came out to
GPU benchmark results:
GPU score: 162037
any more options?
