Hi @starswallower,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're encountering a couple of issues with your HP Pavilion Gaming PC (model TG01-0023w) after installing new RAM. Let's address each of your concerns step by step:
- RAM Speed and Compatibility:
- The RAM you linked appears to be DDR4-2666 memory. If your system is not running it at the advertised speed, there are a few things to consider:
- Motherboard Compatibility: Check your motherboard's specifications to ensure it supports DDR4-2666 RAM at its advertised speed. Some motherboards may default to a lower speed if the RAM is not properly recognized or if the motherboard supports a lower maximum speed.
- BIOS Update: Updating your BIOS can sometimes improve RAM compatibility and stability. However, BIOS updates should be done cautiously to avoid any potential issues. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully if you decide to update the BIOS.
- XMP Profile: If your RAM supports XMP (Extreme Memory Profile), you may need to enable it in the BIOS settings to achieve the advertised speed. XMP allows RAM to run at higher speeds than the default JEDEC specifications.
- 2. Performance Issues (Mouse Lag):
- If you're experiencing lag when moving windows or using the mouse cursor in Task Manager:
- Check System Resources: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check the CPU, RAM, and disk usage. High usage in any of these areas can cause system slowdowns.
- Drivers and Updates: Ensure that all your drivers (especially graphics and chipset drivers) are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause performance issues.
- Background Processes: Check for unnecessary background processes that may be consuming system resources. Close any programs or processes that you don't need while testing performance.
- Updating BIOS (if necessary):
- Proceed with Caution: Updating the BIOS can potentially improve compatibility and performance, but it carries a small risk of causing issues if not done correctly. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely and ensure your PC is connected to a reliable power source during the update.
- HP BIOS Updates: Visit HP's official support website, enter your PC's model number, and look for BIOS updates under the "Drivers and Downloads" section if you decide a BIOS update might be necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
