In understand that you would To backup your data to an external hard drive, follow these general steps. Please be aware that specific steps can vary slightly depending on your operating system. I would request you to please follow the steps:

 

Manual Copy

  • Plug in your external hard drive.
  • Open File Explorer.
  • Navigate to the folders you want to back up (e.g., Documents, Pictures, Desktop).
  • Drag and drop or copy/paste them onto the external drive.

Windows File History 

  • Connect your external hard drive.
  • Go to Settings → Update & Security → Backup.
  • Select Add a drive and choose your external hard drive.
  • Turn on Automatically back up my files.
  • Windows will now back up your files regularly without you needing to copy them manually.

Windows Backup & Restore (System Image)

  • Open Control Panel → System and Security → Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
  • Click Set up backup.
  • Choose your external hard drive as the destination.
  • Select whether to back up files or create a full system image
