Originally the computer would be with windows 7
you clearly indicate that you have windows 10!
a little surprised therefore, that the original application works, but it is possible
If you haven't installed anything, maybe it's the osd-like function, I can't remember the name
look as shown here, the list of programs at startup
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03341435
with windows 10 you have to open the task manager
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03671001
What do you see here ?
[edit]
if we look at the software and drivers on the product page
you have this
This package provides the HP Keyboard OSD application for Caps/Num/Scroll lock in supported models that are running a supported operating system.
in my opinion, it is this program

See if the instructions for Turning Off Animations in this thread does this for you: https://appuals.com/turn-off-the-caps-lock-on-screen-notifications-in-windows-10/
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

okay so i did what you said and opened task manager to see running programs. i couldnt find the program that you suggested, but what i did find, and for anyone else that has the same problem, look for anything that has the word LED in it, when looking at running programs in the task manager, and then disable it. i still count your reply as the final solution, and i appreciate it so much, it has been horrible to play like this, so thank you so much for the help!!!!
