how to set up icon on task bar to view last files used

I have the icon on my task bar and in the past when I right clicked on the icon it would bring up the last 3 or 4 files I was working on – now when I click on nothing shows and I have to go to the last file in order to bring up the list of last 4 or 5 files on was working on? Not sure how to get the feature back or how I caused it to not come up? I did do a system restore for another issue I was having with my on-line mail.

I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Without details on what the OS is and what icon you are referring to, I really can't see how we can help you.
