HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ee0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

My mouse has been working fine, is fully charged and I have restarted the computer and switched usb ports. I turn is on and click. Nothing comes up on the desktop screen. But I do get ( not sure how) the virtual keyboard on the screen when I am not trying the mouse.

Please, how to disarm the virtual keyboard AND how to get my mouse working properly.

Thanks!

Hi @SuzieQ18,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY X360 Laptop is displaying the on-screen keyboard when you try to use a wireless mouse, it could be due to a software or configuration issue. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this problem.

Check for Physical Obstructions: Make sure there are no physical obstructions between the wireless mouse and the laptop. Sometimes, interference from other wireless devices or obstacles can disrupt the mouse signal.

Check Mouse Batteries: Ensure that the wireless mouse has sufficient battery power. Weak or dead batteries can cause connectivity issues.

Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches. Restart your laptop and see if the problem persists.

Check Mouse Settings:

  • Go to the Windows "Settings" by pressing Win + I.
  • Click on "Devices."
  • In the left sidebar, select "Mouse."
  • Ensure that the mouse is recognized and configured correctly. If not, you may need to add the device or update drivers.

Update Mouse Drivers:

  • Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices" section.
  • Right-click on your wireless mouse device and select "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver software.

Uninstall and Reinstall Mouse Drivers:

  • In the "Device Manager," right-click on your wireless mouse device and select "Uninstall device."
  • Disconnect the wireless receiver (if applicable) and restart your laptop.
  • Reconnect the receiver and let Windows reinstall the mouse drivers.

Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, third-party software or utilities can interfere with mouse operation. Try booting your laptop in Safe Mode (press F8 during startup) and see if the mouse works correctly there. If it does, this suggests a software conflict.

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Updates can include bug fixes and driver updates that may resolve mouse-related issues.

Try a Different USB Port: If you're using a USB wireless receiver for your mouse, try plugging it into a different USB port to rule out any issues with the port itself.

Test with Another Mouse: To isolate the problem, try using a different wireless mouse on your laptop to see if it exhibits the same behavior. If the new mouse works correctly, it could indicate a problem with your original mouse.

Check for Malware or Viruses: Perform a thorough scan of your laptop for malware or viruses, as they can sometimes affect system behavior.

System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can try using Windows System Restore to revert your laptop to a previous state when the mouse was working correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
