password in question keeps auto filling when I go to log into this one website, but is not in my Edge or Chrome saved passwords. How can this be?

@stuartt18 -- could it be a "cookie" that the web-site saved on your computer?

Maybe, "deleting cookies" will work.  Of course, it will delete all the cookies, for all the web-sites. That probably will cause you to "lose" some settings for some web-sites, e.g., your ID for the eBay/PayPal sites.

How do I delete cookies? Obviously I'm not  a techie.  And what problems will deleting them cause me?

HP Recommended

@stuartt18 -- if you are using the Microsoft Edge web-browser, click on the three horizontal "dots" near the top-right corner of its window, and then click on "Settings". Into the input-area that opens at top-left of the new window, type CLEAR, and press ENTER, to see the various things that you can "clear".

I previously stated what happens after you clear cookies, with reference to eBay's cookies.

Windows Internet Explorer (IE)

The Internet Explorer AutoComplete feature can be enabled and disabled by following the steps below.

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools and then Internet Options.
  3. In the Internet Options window click the Content tab.
  4. Click the AutoComplete button.
  5. Check or uncheck the options you want to have or not have AutoComplete. Below is a brief explanation of what each of the options are for.
  • Web page addresses - AutoComplete for the address typed in the address bar.
  • Forms - Enable a user to fill out fields that are commonly completed such as e-mail, address, phone number, etc.
  • User names and passwords on forms - Any forms that are requiring usernames. This can be helpful for users who are frequently needing to enter their username and password. However, can also be a security risk if that computer is used or accessible by other users.

FireFox

If you don't want Firefox to remember what you've entered into form fields, you can turn off the auto form fill feature:

  1. Click the menu button and choose Options.
  2. Select the Privacy panel.
  3. Set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history.
  4. Remove the checkmark from the box that says Remember search and form history.
  5. Click OK to close the Options window.

Disabling form history also prevents Firefox from storing search history for the Search bar in the Navigation Toolbar.

Chrome

Autofill is turned on by default. Follow the steps below to turn it off.

  1. Click the Chrome menu (three dots) on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click on the Sync section.
  4. Click on the slider next to Autofill to turn off.

You can also clear passwords manually from the manage passwords screen in Chrome:

  1. Go to Settings in Chrome menu > Passwords.
  2. From your list of Saved Passwords, you can click the three dots next to each one to either get more details or remove them. This will help eliminate unwanted saved data from being auto-filled.

And finally, you may disable third-party extensions, such as Last Pass, that will continue to auto-fill information even after the above has been disabled.

  1. Go to Settings in the Chrome Menu > Extensions.
  2. Click Details on the third-party password/autofill extension
  3. Disable autofill.
