Hi @BILL4266,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To address the "Access is denied" error while trying to uninstall Shift from your HP Pavilion Desktop, follow these steps.
Run as Administrator:
- Right-click on the Shift application icon or installer.
- Select "Run as administrator" to give it elevated permissions and try uninstalling again.
Use Control Panel:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Locate Shift in the list of installed programs.
- Right-click on Shift and select Uninstall. If the "Access is denied" error appears, proceed to the next step.
Safe Mode:
- Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode.
- For Windows 10/11: Hold down the Shift key while selecting Restart from the Start menu.
- Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and click Restart.
- Choose Safe Mode with Networking.
- Try uninstalling Shift in Safe Mode using Control Panel or the Shift uninstaller.
Check Permissions:
- Ensure you have administrative rights on your account.
- Right-click on the Shift folder (if available) and check the folder’s properties to ensure you have full control.
Delete Program Files Manually:
- If the above methods fail, you might need to manually delete Shift files:
- Navigate to the installation directory of Shift (usually in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)).
- Delete the Shift folder.
- After deleting the folder, go to the Registry Editor (regedit):
- Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software.
- Look for any folders related to Shift and delete them.
- Be cautious when editing the registry—deleting the wrong entry can affect system stability.
Check for Malware:
- Sometimes, malware or corrupted files can cause such errors. Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out these possibilities.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
