Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: HP Display Control Service. Product Version: 5.3.72.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Portrait Displays, Inc.. Installation success or error status: 1603.  I rolled back the driver, and it stopped showing up in the reliability monitor. Now driver 4368.0 was installed and it's showing up again.  I can't roll it back again it's grayed out. I've tried everything.

Hi @Dave4442,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand that the error code 1603 is an installation error that typically occurs during the installation or update of software on Windows. It is a generic error indicating that something has gone wrong during the installation process. Since you are dealing with the HP Display Control Service designed by Portrait Displays, Inc., the problem seems to be related to its installation or update.

Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

Ensure Proper Permissions:

  • Make sure you have administrative privileges, as this might be required to install or update drivers correctly.

Check System Requirements:

  • Ensure your system meets the HP Display Control Service's prerequisites, such as compatible graphics drivers or specific software dependencies.

Clean Up Temporary Files:

  • Use Disk Cleanup to clear out temporary files that might be preventing installation.

Disable Antivirus Software Temporarily:

  • Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus software, as it might be interfering with the installation process.

Run Installer as Administrator:

  • Right-click the installer for the HP Display Control Service and select "Run as Administrator."

Check Windows Update:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest patches and updates, as missing updates can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.

Use the Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter:

  • Download and run the troubleshooter from Microsoft to automatically fix problems preventing program installation or removal.

Look at Event Logs for Detailed Errors:

  • Open Event Viewer (search for it in the Start menu), navigate to Windows Logs -> Application, and check for recent errors or warnings related to the HP Display Control Service to gather more detailed information.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
