Hi @THEHELPINGNINJA,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for choosing HP. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Windows key on your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop (15-fa1000 series). We understand how important that key is for daily use, and we're here to help you resolve this swiftly.
Step 1: Check if the Windows Key is Locked
HP gaming laptops may include a Gaming Mode or Windows Key Lock feature that disables the key during gameplay.
- Press Fn + F12 (check your keyboard for a symbol that looks like a lock or controller).
- If your model has the OMEN Gaming Hub installed:
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub → Go to Performance Control → Make sure Windows Key Lock is disabled.
Step 2: Use the On-Screen Keyboard
To confirm if it’s a hardware issue:
- Press Windows + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.
- Click the Windows key on the virtual keyboard.
- If the Start Menu opens, your physical Windows key may be faulty.
Step 3: Check Sticky/Filter Keys Settings
Sometimes Windows accessibility settings may affect key behaviour:
- Go to Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard.
- Turn Off Sticky Keys and Filter Keys.
Step 4: Update Keyboard Drivers
- Right-click Start → Device Manager → Keyboards.
- Right-click your keyboard → Choose Update driver.
- Restart your laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
