HP All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cr0000i (70P56AV)

I have 8gb of system memory for a HP All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cr0000i and have football manager 24 installed along with MacAfee security. I am having to analyse and defragment every day to free up memory as after a certain time football manager will just close down saying low memory is there something I am doing wrong.

Hi @Gazzahutch79,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP All-in-One Desktop PC 27-cr0000i (70P56AV) is running low on available memory, which is causing Football Manager 24 to close down. This can happen when the system runs out of RAM (Random Access Memory) to allocate to the applications you're running.

Here are some steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Upgrade Your RAM

  • Upgrade to More RAM: 8 GB of RAM is relatively low for gaming, especially for a resource-intensive game like Football Manager 24. Upgrading to 16 GB or more can significantly improve your system's performance and reduce the likelihood of memory-related crashes.
  • Check Compatibility: Before upgrading, ensure that your PC supports additional RAM and that you purchase the correct type (DDR4, DDR5, etc.).

2. Optimize Your System for Better Performance

  • Close Unnecessary Applications: Make sure no unnecessary applications or background processes are running while playing the game. Applications like web browsers, other games, or even some system utilities can consume significant amounts of RAM.
  • Disable Startup Programs: Reduce the number of programs that start automatically with Windows. This can free up RAM and other resources for your games.
    • To do this, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, go to the Startup tab, and disable unnecessary programs.

3. Manage Virtual Memory

  • Adjust Virtual Memory Settings: Windows uses a portion of your hard drive as "virtual memory" to supplement your physical RAM. Increasing the size of your paging file can help if you're running low on RAM.
    • To adjust virtual memory settings, go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings. Under Performance, click Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory. Click Change, uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives, and manually set a larger size.
  • Optimize Disk Space: Ensure your hard drive has enough free space for virtual memory to operate efficiently. Delete unnecessary files or programs to free up space if needed.

4. Regularly Update Software and Drivers

  • Update Your Game and Drivers: Make sure Football Manager 24 and your graphics drivers are up to date. Updates often include performance optimizations and bug fixes that can improve stability.
  • Windows Updates: Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can provide performance improvements and stability fixes.

5. Monitor System Resource Usage

  • Use Task Manager: While playing Football Manager 24, keep an eye on your system’s RAM usage. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), and go to the Performance tab to monitor memory usage. If you notice high usage, close any other programs that might be using a lot of memory.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
