@web3geek, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Tips to Fix a Freezing and Slow PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve issues with a PC that freezes and performs slowly:

1. Check for Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system is up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.
  • Use Windows Update to install necessary updates:
    • Click on the Start Menu.
    • Select Settings.
    • Click on Update & Security and then Windows Update.
    • Click Check for updates and ensure all updates are installed.

2. Update Drivers:

  • Outdated or incorrect drivers can cause system instability.
  • You can update drivers through HP Support Assistant:
    • Open HP Support Assistant (found under All Apps in the Start Menu).
    • Click Check for updates on the support page.

3. Reduce Startup Programs:

  • Excessive startup programs can slow down your PC.
  • Disable unnecessary startup programs via Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Go to the Startup tab.
    • Right-click on unnecessary programs and select Disable.

4. Run a Virus Scan:

  • Malware can significantly impact PC performance.
  • Use your antivirus software to run a comprehensive scan and remove any threats.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
