Hi This question is probably better suited for another vendors' chat forum, but I will start here, if that is okay ....
So I have a Magellan Triton 400 North American GPS unit. I am using Magellan Vantage Point software on hp probook with windows 10. I needed to install some NET framework stuff, but eventually succeeded.
Now I am moving to windows 11 on my Victus. The vantage point software installs, and appears functional, but, when attempting to connect the GPS unit, I am getting an error dialog box.
Does anyone know how to "fix" it. I am assuming that if this is fixed, then there will probably be another error, then another error, then another error, which is typicial when moving to newer windows version.
thanks

Hi @bkwhy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering issues with compatibility and security settings when trying to use Magellan Vantage Point software on Windows 11. The error message you’re seeing, related to "sys file security settings," suggests there may be issues with file permissions, compatibility, or security settings.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Compatibility Mode
- Run in Compatibility Mode:
- Right-click the Magellan Vantage Point shortcut or executable file.
- Select Properties.
- Go to the Compatibility tab.
- Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 10 (or an earlier version if Windows 10 doesn’t work).
- Click Apply, then OK, and try running the program again.
2. Run as Administrator
- Administrative Privileges:
- Right-click the Magellan Vantage Point shortcut or executable file.
- Select Run as administrator.
- This can help bypass certain permissions issues.
3. Check .NET Framework Installation
- Verify .NET Framework:
- Ensure you have the correct version of the .NET Framework installed that the software requires. You can check installed .NET versions by:
- Opening Command Prompt and typing dotnet --info or checking in Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- If necessary, download and install the required .NET Framework version from the Microsoft website.
- Ensure you have the correct version of the .NET Framework installed that the software requires. You can check installed .NET versions by:
4. Check File Permissions
- Adjust File Permissions:
- Navigate to the directory where the Magellan Vantage Point software is installed.
- Right-click the folder or executable file and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab and ensure that your user account has Full control.
- Click Edit if needed to adjust permissions.
5. Disable Windows Defender or Antivirus Temporarily
- Check for Interference:
- Sometimes antivirus or Windows Defender can interfere with software installations or operations.
- Temporarily disable them and see if the issue persists. Make sure to re-enable them afterward for security.
6. Install Latest Drivers and Updates
- Driver Updates:
- Ensure that your GPS drivers are up-to-date. Check for updates from the Magellan website or through Windows Update.
- Visit the Magellan Support website for any specific driver or software updates.
7. Check for Windows Updates
- Update Windows:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for any pending updates.
- Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues with newer software.
8. Reinstall Magellan Vantage Point
- Clean Reinstall:
