All HP PC serial numbers have 10 characters and are arranged like this:  CCS###ZZZZ

The ### is the year and week of manufacture expressed as numbers 0 - 9 for the 4th character, and 01 - 52 for the 5th and 6th characters.

It has to be in your PC's BIOS information screen somewhere.

Sorry, but I can't help you with this problem.

The command prompt command should have worked, and the serial number should be present in the BIOS.

If your PC is working, run the command prompt as administrator and run this command:

wmic bios get serialnumber

It says invalid  get expression

That command worked fine for me to get my PC's serial number.

There's only one other thing you can do and that is to go into the PC's BIOS setup menu and the serial number should be listed in the system information screen.

To get into the BIOS restart the PC, immediately tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 setup option and press the enter key.

The system information screen should provide various information details regarding your PC.
