Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Monitor went out for a minute and came back at a different aspect ratio. Unable to get it back to what I had before. I think it was adjustable before as many examples show on the internet when obtaining instructions for setting. Mine is too large now and not able to roll it back. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help.

I have now been onto Microsoft Support who say that this is an "emerging issue".  The guy on "Chat" reset my display driver back to a previous version and I am now back to normal.

Hope that helps.  I think a Windows 10 correction will be along sometime

I had the same problem on the same day - Help!

Count me in too.  Very  same day while watching a video on youtube ....blank screen for a few seconds, then video  started playing again.  I have an HP desktop model no 6720f.  I use a 27 inch Acer monitor. and the usual resolution requirements are 2560X1440.

I did not immediately notice the problem, which I assume arose when the screen went blank momentarily. I only noticed the problems when I got out of full screen.  At that point the  keyboard and cursor were still working but were no longer in the usual Google browser appearance .....  format.  Resolutions were changed (black boarder around monitor screen.  Text was blurred in large letters.  I can't remember all that was wrong.

I ended up updating to the the new Windows 10 version 1709.  When the update was finally completed the computer functions were OK but resolutions were too low and the aspect ratio was wrong (black border around screen and screen too wide.)

I checked device manager and looked for updates.  I had an red alert telling me there were files missing and that my computer was not secure.  I was instructed to  install updates, which I did.  I have all the updates needed for Windows 10 Version 1709.

There appears to be two main problems ....resolutions and aspect ratio.  In Display Settings, Resolutions  are set at 1280 x 1024, which is inadaqute for my 27 inch monitor.  I can't find a way to change that setting or fix aspect ratio.

I would appreciate some help in solving the problems that arose yesterday when the screen went blank for a few seconds.

I have the same problem, and it also started early today. The monitor went black for a second and then the screen image is stretched and the font is large.  I tried all display options on the Microsoft 10 control panel, but it does not let me correct the aspect ratio. Please help.

bob170, I had to  go to a  computer service company.  They tried  to install a new driver but it failed to install.  I had to  buy and have them install a Radeon HD6450 graphic's card.  Everything is working as it should.  The service man told  me my 5 year old HP desktop model 6702f have trouble with the new version  No.1709 for Windows 10.  Hope this helps.

I did the same update during yesterday as well with no success. I also looked for an updated driver.

Me too!

I restarted my HP Desktop (p7-1010) after Norton Security requested it. I then found that my external HP monitor was showing a wrong resolution: everything is stretched wide and is a bit blurry.

On startup, the monitor tries to "Auto-Adjust" to 1600 x 900 pixels but Windows won't let it.

Also, in Settings, Windows only offers 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768, or 800 x 600 px, all of which are useless.

All drivers appear to be up to date.

I did a Windows Update to the latest version, but the problem was not resolved.

I then did a full system scan (how come I have a million files on my PC?) which showed no issues.

Q: How do I get Windows to allow the montor to auto-adjust to 1600 x 900 px?

(Also, and maybe connected, I noticed that there is now no "Sleep" option on the Start Menu!)

Hopefully there will be an update soon for this issue. Looks like lots of people are experiencing the same thing.

I just mentioned this on a related forum.  I had the problem with screen resolution on my HP 2310m display  in Windows 10.  I went back to the 2015 version of ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics, and that solved the problem
