I have a 27es monitor (T3M86AA) that just stopped working -- the screen flashed once and then went out. The power light remains illuminated but is a dark/dim tan/amber color. It displays nothing on screen when connected or disconnected from a video signal and does not respond to pressing or holding down any of its buttons.
Its power supply is outputting the correct voltage, and just to avoid canned "Did you turn it off and back on? Did you unplug and replug it?"-type responses, here is what has already been tried and yielded no results:
- Power cycling of the monitor via disconnection of the power supply, waiting at least one minute after the power light goes out, and reapplying power (also, I will repeat that I metered the power supply and its voltage holds, even under load)
- Power cycling of my computer (shutdown and power-on, not just a reboot), same duration as above
- Power cycling of the dock (disconnection of power supply), same duration as above (the dock and computer are working, and the same HDMI port and cable produces a image on a different monitor)
- Disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI signal cable
- Verifying the video signal is good by connecting the same cable to a different monitor
- Tried to get the OSD to come up to reset settings (see above about the device not responding to buttons)
- Switched video input ports
Forgot to add:
- Tried holding down various buttons in various combinations while reapplying power in the hopes of finding some magical, undocumented factory reset procedure, but to no avail
I do not think it is a backlight issue because when a backlight goes out, you can still see an image if you get close - that is not happening here.
So... do I now have a brick?
Peace!

HI @Cássio,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've done an extensive amount of troubleshooting with your HP 27es monitor (T3M86AA). Given that the power light remains dim and there’s no display at all, here are a few additional steps you might consider:
1. Check the Power Supply Again
- Even if the voltage checks out, inspect the power supply for any signs of physical damage or overheating. A failing power supply can sometimes output the right voltage intermittently.
2. Inspect Cable and Connections
- Double-check the HDMI cable and connections for any damage. If possible, try a different cable to rule out cable issues completely.
3. Test with a Different Source
- If you haven’t already, connect the monitor to a different computer or device entirely to eliminate the possibility of an issue with the original source.
4. Look for Indicator Lights
- Check if there are any other indicator lights on the monitor that might suggest it's in a standby mode or error state.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
