HP Notebook - 17-ca1007cy
Microsoft Windows 11

I currently have 2 additional monitors connected, ( 1 - 24' HP &  1 Duex portable both working)  I wanted to swap the Duex (13.3in screen) for another 24" HP.  My laptop will not detect the 2nd HP monitor.

Things I've tried:

- Connecting the HP monitors to a splitter plugged into one HDMI  port

- Connecting the second HP monitor with an HDMI adapter (HDMI to USB).

- Run thru each of the standard steps to resolve the problem

- Updated drivers

- Tested each monitor and they work correctly

- Tested each port and they work correctly.

                                               I am out of ideas.

Please help..............

How did you connect them before ? What is the model/product of your Durex monitor ?

I can't locate the Duex monitor product/model number.  The 24" HP monitor is plugged into the HDMI port and the Duex is plugged into a USB port. I got it from Amazon - it works great.  My problem is that I want to replace the Duex with another 24" HP monitor, but the laptop won't detect it.  I have tried all the recommended steps, but have not been successful.

I don't know the Durex, it may have buit-in part. But for the second HP you need a DisplayLink Certified adapter such as

                  USB to HDMI Adapter

Similarly, my specs are below.

HP Elietebook 840 G7

Windows 10

HP G7 dock

I have 3 match FD monitors connected to my G7 dock and 1 monitor always seems to jitter.  I’ve tried swapping around the connection type, updated the drivers and enable USB-C DP in the bios with no change.  If I disconnect a monitor with now jittering, the remains 2 display perfectly fine at 1920x1080.

The only setting that seems to work is changing 1 monitor to a 640x480 resolution.  Any suggestions on how I can have all 3 display at 1920x1080 without the jittering?

What is your HP G7 dock ? I can't find it on the following list

                     https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/accessories/docks.html

The ROT is total resolution go up refresh rate will go down. You may get the third monitor at 1920 x 1080 wen reduce its refresh rate to 30Hz or lower.

Yes sorry… I have a G5 dock.  The best result I could achieve with no jittering of the 3rd monitor going from left to right is:

1920x1080

59.94 hz interlaced

DisplayPort

1920x1080

59.94 hz

DisplayPort

720x576

50 hz interlaced - no option to adjust refresh rate

HDMI

I thought about purchasing brand new cables to see if they are causing the issue.  The hdmi is 4k but I’m not sure about the DisplayPort cables.

I'm using HP USB-C G5 dock now. I tested the dock on 3 machines

My equipment

Notebooks

  1.  HP Elitebook 840 G5 with Thunderbolt™ 3 port - PSU 65W
  2. HP Omen 15-dc0071tx with Thunderbolt™ 3 port - PSU 200W
  3. Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 13-7000 series with Thunderbolt™ 3 port - PSU 65W
  4. HP Envy x360 15-ee0047nr with USB-C 10Gbps with PD and DP 1.4 - PSU 65W (this machine is a gift from HP forum 2 years ago)

Monitors : I've got 5 monitors they are all FHD (1920 x 1080) and at least 5 years old I used 3 monitors for my tests

  1.  Asus 24" which has HDMI (2) and VGA inputs
  2. Dell 22" which has DVI and VGA inputs
  3. LG 24" which has HDMI, DVI and VGA inputs

Cables
I did not buy new cables, using existing cables around the house

  • 2 cables (DP to HDMI) direct from the dock to Asus and LG monitors
  • 1 cable (HDMI to DVI) direct from the dock to the Dell monitor

Results:
Moniotors: all 3 monitors worked + notebook monitor

Charge: Except for the HP Omen, the dock charged other 3 machines
One cable solution: Except for the HP Omen, the dock worked on other 3 machines
- power the dock also power the machine, no need to lift the lid.
- shut down machine also turn off the dock for the HP 840 only.

Again, I did not test the RJ-45 port on the dock, also mice and keyboards because do not have wired mice and keyboards to test.

Back to your situation, the difference: my machine is G5 and your machine is G7. I don't know why.

Regards.
