I have a problem with the Radeon gfx card that came installed.  The fan on the board has taken to doing an impression of a steam train on the noise scale.  The computer overall is currently working perfectly well with no drop in graphics detail - it's simply an excessively noisy fan.

If it is not possible to get a replacement fan for this card, is it possible to buy a replacement unit from HP ?  I don't seem to be able to locate any to purchase online.  Failing that - can you recommend a suitable alternative that would not entail changing the PSU ?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

Problem solved (for now);  removed fan from the three mounting screws on the gfx card, then used a dry QTip to remove the small amount of dust that was on the part of the fan blade(s) attached to the central unit and this appears to have done the trick as all now quit.  I'd read on a forum elsewhere that even the smallest amount of dust that can build up in that area can unbalance a fan and this may have been the case here as after cleaning said blades, all seems to have quietened down - time will tell.

Thanks for your reply Riddle_Decipher btw - I had cleaned the vents (always do that as a matter of course) but tend to leave the BIOS alone - wouldn't want to total the pc..... 😉

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the fan is extremely noisy on your HP desktop,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Have you attempted to clean the vents of your device?

Did you update the BIOS to resolve the issue?

(Click here to find and install the same, if you haven't done it yet)

While you respond to that,

I have a few recommendations:

  • A computer contains several fans to keep it cool. When a computer is first turned on, the fans normally spin at high speed and create some noise. After 5 to 20 seconds, however, the fan noise stops.

  • Fans that continue to spin at high speed or make strange noises might indicate a problem. If the fan is still noisy after 20 seconds or if a fan suddenly starts making unusual noises, use the following steps to troubleshoot problems.

(Though the header/title may be different, the steps will help resolve your concern).

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
