Hi @mark_gin,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
When using the HP ENVY Curved All-in-One - 34-b135se as a second monitor via HDMI In, and encountering issues with screen brightness being too high, it's important to note that the On-Screen Display (OSD) settings for brightness may be unavailable or grayed out because the monitor's brightness controls are typically disabled when the display is used as an external input source.
Here’s how you can address this issue:
- Have you checked if the brightness settings in your primary computer (the one connected via HDMI) can be adjusted?
- Are there any recent updates to the monitor's firmware or software that might affect the display settings?
- Does the issue occur only with HDMI In, or does it also affect other input sources (e.g., DisplayPort, USB-C)?
Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
Step 1: Check Display Settings on the Connected Device
Adjust Brightness on Primary Device:
- If you’re using a Windows PC, go to Settings > System > Display and adjust the brightness settings there.
- On a macOS device, go to System Preferences > Displays and adjust the brightness settings.
Check Graphics Control Panel:
- For Windows, open the graphics control panel (such as Intel Graphics Command Center, NVIDIA Control Panel, or AMD Radeon Settings) and look for any brightness or color settings that can be adjusted for the external monitor.
Step 2: Use Monitor’s Built-In Settings
Monitor Menu Navigation:
- Access the monitor's built-in settings using the buttons on the side or bottom of the monitor.
- While the OSD brightness control might be disabled, check if there are any other picture or color settings available.
Reset to Factory Defaults:
- If possible, reset the monitor to its factory default settings to ensure no custom settings are affecting brightness.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @mark_gin,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 3: Check for Firmware Updates
- Firmware Update:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for the HP ENVY Curved All-in-One - 34-b135se.
- Follow the instructions to update the monitor’s firmware if a new version is available.
Step 4: Adjust Screen Calibration
Windows Calibration:
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings and select Color Calibration.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the display, which can sometimes adjust brightness and contrast levels.
macOS Calibration:
- Go to System Preferences > Displays > Color and use the Calibrate option to adjust the color profile.
Step 5: Check HDMI Cable and Connections
Inspect HDMI Cable:
- Ensure that the HDMI cable is securely connected and is in good condition. Try a different HDMI cable if available.
Try Different HDMI Port:
- If the monitor has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting to a different port to see if the issue persists.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be worth contacting HP Support for further assistance, as there could be hardware.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thank you for the help but it was unsuccessful. I cannot change brightness on the laptop connected to the monitor. My computer already updated to windows 11 and I cannot update the BIOS or HP Display Control. What is the work around to get them installed in windows 11? I can download them but cannot install them. It doesn't go anywhere.
