Hi my PC has an issue with two mouse pointers been on the screen at the same time, this make the mouse pointer you are trying to use jump into the corner of the screen where the other mouse pointer is, the second pointer is always stuck in the same spot on the screen(right hand side). It makes using the computer very difficult. I've tried using the HP diagnostics tool but this has said all is ok. I've also reloaded windows but no change, any ideas please?

Hi @JasonG5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Disconnect External Devices:

  • Ensure no additional input devices are connected, such as external mice, tablets, or trackpads. Sometimes multiple input devices can cause pointer conflicts.

Check Mouse Settings:

  • Navigate to Settings > Devices > Mouse.
  • Ensure that settings such as pointer speed and trails are configured correctly.

Update Device Drivers:

  • Update Mouse Drivers:
    • Go to Device Manager.
    • Find Mice and other pointing devices.
    • Right-click your mouse driver and select Update driver.
  • Update Graphics Drivers:
    • Updating your graphics drivers can also resolve pointer issues. You can use tools like HP Support Assistant to update drivers.
  • Update BIOS:
    • Sometimes, updating BIOS can resolve hardware conflicts. Visit the HP support site and check if a BIOS update is available for your model.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Booting into Safe Mode can help determine if the issue is caused by third-party software or driver conflicts.
  • Type msconfig in the Start menu, go to Boot tab, select Safe boot, and press OK.
  • Restart your computer and check if the issue persists.

Check for Display Issues:

  • Multiple pointers can sometimes be related to display configurations.
  • Ensure that you are using the correct resolution settings. Go to Settings > System > Display.

Perform Clean Boot:

  • A clean boot helps eliminate conflicts caused by third-party applications.
  • Type msconfig in the Start menu, under Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then disable all.
  • Under Startup tab, open Task Manager, and disable all startup items.
  • Restart the computer and see if the issue is resolved.

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Although the HP Diagnostics tool reported all is okay, running specific diagnostic tests might help:
    • Utilize HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):
      • Restart the computer and press F2 to enter UEFI and run component tests specifically for the mouse and touch input.

I hope this helps.
