Touchsmart 600t All In One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Touchsmart 600-1000t since 2009-when HP customized it and built it for me. Fast forward to About 2 weeks ago i unplugged my computer to prepare for Hurricane Irma. I just plugged it back in yesterday and my ambient light that illuminates and shines onto the keyboard keeps flashing and wont stop. It cycles through the 3 settings (low, medium, high intensity) and it wont stop. I also had a problem with my windows not updating and kept looping and acting like it was going to download but it never did. So i went online and figured that out. I thought that may fix the problem with the light - It didnt. its still flashing. The only way I can get it to stop is unplug the computer again. Its in the the very same spot I had it plugged in before the Hurricane. No damage to the area either. I updated my NVIDIA driver using the cntrol panel from my PC and that didnt fix it either. I need help!! I am not sure if it is related to this issue: but 2 months ago my PC kept turning off and wouldnt come back on. I reached out to a friend and he asked if I leave it on at night..I do, since 2009 (purchased). So I started turning it off at night. I dont know if that is related to this issue, power spply? IDK. I have been on HP support looking at drivers and cant figure out which one would be related to the ambient light. No, I do not have the software HP Ambient Light on my PC as it was neevr installed and only comes as a pre-installedprogram and you cant get it after the fact (without paying). My light is only one color and always has been.  Please help guide me as to what is causing this, how to fix it. Thank you!

Hi @QuickbooksPro,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. As I understand that you are facing no power issue with the notebook. Don't worry as I have a few  suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

When you try to turn it on, do you hear the fan running? Or do you get any beeping noises/blinking lights?

Did this happen after a power surge or power outage?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform the below steps:

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Please click on the below links once you identify the blink code and resolve the issue:

If the issue persists, I would personally suggest you contact our HP Phone Support for further assistance. If your product is Out of warranty then remember to choose the paid options to get the tech support number.

They might have multiple options to help you on this.

My computer turns on with no issues and stays on but the ambient light just keeps flashing. One of the first things i did was to do a hard reset, which I did, but it did not fix my issue. I have installed the updated NVIDIA GeForce driver and it did nothing to fix my issue. I have looked at my settings in netwrok, keyboard, muse, etc and nothing....I have even typed ambient light in my start menu and nothing....there is no program. this flashes even when my computer is off. I have to unplug it for it to stop.

Thank you so much! Do you think it's a driver issue? Not sure if drivers are considered hardware??

@QuickbooksPro

It looks like you were interacting with @Jeet_singh, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.

I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:

There doesn't seem to be a driver for the ambient light you are referring to, therefore, I'm afraid this isn't the driver and to answer your question, No - the drivers are not considered hardware.

This seems to be an LED malfunction, they may replace the strip of LED or change the panel to fix the issue, you could Contact them as suggested by the previous tech and it should be taken care off.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Have a great day!
